Research & Development Tax Concessions (R&DTC)

What is R&DTC?

A government Scheme allowing Australian companies to claim back an extra 25% of their Research and Development expenses.

What's in it for me?

Up to 37.5c in every eligible dollar spent on R&D.

Is my business eligible?

If your business is a registered company regulated in accordance with the law of a State or Territory, see below for company eligibility.

For companies which are SMEs and in a Tax Loss, cash payments are available, but special provisions apply.

Company Eligibility

If you can answer yes to the questions below, it will potentially be eligible to apply for an R&DTC.

Is your company a Proprietary Limited Australian company and not a trust? (i.e. not a Partnership or Sole Trader)
Are you undertaking projects that are either innovative, or involve a development cycle with significant testing, analysis and risk of failure?
Have you spent more than $20 000 on these projects during the previous financial year?

Important Dates for R&D

  • 1 July-Submissions open for the R&D Tax concession .
  • 1 April-Last day to sign up with SPS for R&D TC to guarantee lodgement .
  • 15 April-Last day to send in documents for the R&D TC to SPS to guarantee lodgement .
  • 30 April-Submissions close for the R&D Tax concession.
